The MnSGC and Tripoli MN, a local high-power rocket club, hosted the 2018-2019 Space Grant Midwest High-Power Rocket Competition on May 18 and 19, 2019. In this competition college student teams designed and built high-power rockets to go supersonic but as “efficiently” as possible.
Team presentations about rocket designs were held at the Split Rocks Entertainment Center in Wyoming, MN, on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Unfortunately the competition launches scheduled to take place at the Tripoli MN high-power rocket launch site outside North Branch, MN, on Sunday, May 19, or Monday, May 20, needed to be called off due to rain and impassable mud. Teams will fly at their home fields instead and will provide video evidence and post-flight reports for judging over the upcoming months.
Here are the final judged results:
1st place: University of Minnesota – Twin Cities “Rocket Team”
2nd place: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign “Illinois Space Society”
3rd place: Northwestern University “NUSTARS”
Congratulations to all participating teams!
