The MnSGC to host the 2019-2020 Space Grant Midwest High-Power Rocket Competition on May 16-17, 2020

The MnSGC and Tripoli MN, a local high-power rocketry club, are hosting the 2019-2020 Space
Grant Midwest High-Power Rocket Competition in May of 2020. In this competition college
student teams will design, build, and fly a high-power rocket to accomplish a
“photography/altitude” challenge in which they will try to minimize roll during ascent to get the
best possible video footage from 2 on-board cameras, monitor the separated vehicle (also by
photography) during descent, take a 360-degree panoramic photo from the maximum possible
height off the ground after landing, and achieve specific apogee altitudes during two competition
flights.

Team presentations about rocket designs will be held at the Splitrocks Entertainment Center in
Wyoming, MN, on Saturday, May 16, 2020, starting in the late afternoon and going into the
evening. The competition launches will take place all day (weather permitting) at the Tripoli MN
high-power rocket launch site outside North Branch, MN, on Sunday, May 17, 2020. Spectators
are welcome to attend all events. Use the “Contact Us” link to request more details.

An informational telecom about competition was held on September 24, 2019 (and will be repeated at 7 p.m. CST on Thursday, January 16, 2020, for teams not starting till mid-academic year). Contact James Flaten flate001@umn.edu. MN Space Grant, for more information.
