Launch Rockets with the University of Minnesota Duluth Rocketry Team

Launch rockets and take a hands-on look at the safety, engineering, and thrill of rocketry.

The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldog Rocketry team will be joining the Northern Expressions Arts Collective for this event. It is open to the public and there will be hands-on and team activities for the whole family — including launching your own model rocket!

The Bulldog Rocketry team will also show parts from their rocket that was launched to 30,000 feet at the Spaceport America Cup competition in June.

Bulldog Rocketry Team

Bulldog Rocketry is a student organization at the University of Minnesota Duluth focused on the design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, and competition of high-power rockets. In addition to the experience and opportunities, Bulldog Rocketry provides a collaborative and family-like culture.

Over the past few years, the team has grown from five to over 50 members due to the outstanding opportunities offered to the students. All components of the rocket have been designed and developed by the student members.

During the summer of 2018, the team placed second in the Spaceport America Cup held by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association, an international high-power rocketry competition. The following summer, in 2019, the team took second place with the rocket reaching a height of over 30,000 feet.

The Bulldog Rocketry team is looking forward to designing and manufacturing advanced equipment that will include voice feedback, low-power tracking systems, thermal imagining systems for finding missing persons, and advanced carbon fiber manufacturing methods.

Another endeavor is the further development of a hybrid rocket, capable of reaching altitudes up to 40,000 feet. The hybrid rocket will use advanced materials and manufacturing methods on the cutting edge of engineering.

Other developments include providing business students opportunities in expanding the business side of Bulldog Rocketry, and expanding computing capabilities with website building and data management.
