BSU is an affiliate institution in the MnSGC, which is housed in the Center for Environmental, Economic, Earth, and Space Studies. Programming is available to students engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related studies at BSU. Additionally, BSU sponsors activities through the Headwaters Science Center and for middle schools in and around Bemidji.

Administration
- Administer BSU’s MnSGC activities and provide data for NASA reporting.

Scholarships, Fellowships, Internships
- Provide scholarship/fellowship support to BSU students majoring in areas of interest to NASA (e.g. STEM majors).

Higher Education
- Support research experiences for graduate and undergraduate students.
- Support laboratory and field experiences for graduate and undergraduate students in Weather and Climate, Hydrology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Geophysics, Environmental Toxicology, Wastewater Treatment, and Environmental Chemistry classes.
- Support student travel to professional research conferences.

Research
- Support research into the remote sensing for water quality and aquatic invasive species control.
- Support research into the developmental effects of Northern Minnesota Surface waters on yellow perch.
- Support research of past climate reconstruction through dendrochronology.

Pre-College / Teacher Development
- Support travel and attendance of BSU Education students to the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics Spring Conference.

Informal Education / Outreach
- Support STEM student engagement during the Northern Minnesota Science Fair.
- Support middle school student participation in Star Lab and other STEM outreach activities.
- Work with the Headwaters Science Center to support STEM-oriented hands-on workshops for middle school students and residents of northern Minnesota.
