The MnSGC and Tripoli MN, a local high-power rocket club, hosted the 2017-2018 Space Grant Midwest High-Power Rocket Competition on May 19 & 20, 2018. In this competition college student teams were challenged to design, build, and fly a high-power rocket with “active roll/orientation control” using which they tried to quash roll, during one competition flight, then “dialed in” various specific roll/orientation angles while coasting to apogee, during a second competition flight. Team presentations about rocket designs were held at the Splitrocks Entertainment Center in Wyoming, MN, on Saturday, May 19, starting in the late afternoon and going into the evening. The competition launches took place all day (weather was wonderful!) at the Tripoli MN high-power rocket launch site outside North Branch, MN, on Sunday, May 20. Spectators were welcome to attend all events.
